Different Kinds of Aerial Lift
Aerial lifts are a specialized kind of heavy equipment which enables employees to be lifted into the air. These machines can be used to carry out maintenance and repairs in places that are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Like nearly all devices, there are different kinds of aerial lifts which can be used to perform different tasks. For the utmost safety, each and every type of different type of equipment requires right training and specific qualifications before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Genie lifts are another name for scissor lifts. These equipment are the most basic kind of aerial lift available. These lifts are made of a platform which is raised up by means of pneumatic power and are mainly used for indoor applications. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts can be driven similar to big carts. Generally, when the platform is extended, they are not able to be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody can use these devices, workers must be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
The boom lift is a a lot more complex type of aerial lift equipment compared to a scissor lift. The boom lift normally has a much wider base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which enables the operator to lower and raise the bucket. Since the arm of the boom is jointed, it could move from side to side also. The boom lift looks like a tail of a metal scorpion. Usually, it is used in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run compared to scissor lifts, thus, operators must be certified separately for these types of lifts.
